A small studio in old Jaipur, building quietly.
We started Interlay because we were tired of loud interiors.
The kind that announce themselves on the way in, and have nothing left to say a year later. We believe rooms should reveal themselves slowly — through proportion, light, and the small, patient details only the people who live there ever notice.
Every project starts with a long, unhurried conversation. We don't pitch decks or trend boards. We listen — to how you cook, where the morning light falls, the chair your grandmother left behind — and design from there.
We work with a tight circle of master joiners, stoneworkers and metal craftsmen. Most have been with us since the beginning. The work is slow on purpose. Our smallest project takes ten weeks; our largest, two years.
Four principles, quietly held.
Patience over pace
A room takes the time it takes. We'd rather miss a deadline by a week than ship a detail we'll regret for ten years.
Material honesty
Stone is stone. Wood is wood. We avoid finishes that pretend to be something else, and let the material speak for itself.
Proportion first
Before colour, before furniture, before mood — we get the proportion right. Everything else then becomes easier.
Quiet detail
The 5mm reveal, the hidden hinge, the joinery that doesn't shout — this is where we spend the most time, and where the work lives.
From a single apartment to a studio of seven.
The first apartment.
Two designers and a borrowed drafting table. A 1,200 sq.ft. apartment in Bani Park — the project that started everything.
The studio opens.
We move into the C-Scheme studio, hire our first full-time draftsperson, and partner with our long-time joinery atelier.
First commercial commission.
Atelier Office in C-Scheme — a 4,000 sq.ft. workspace that taught us everything about acoustic, light and rhythm in commercial work.
Modular line launches.
Our in-house modular kitchen and wardrobe line begins production — built by the same craftsmen who detail our bespoke joinery.
Today.
Seven full-time, forty trusted partners, 2500+ projects delivered. Still in C-Scheme. Still answering our own phone.
The people behind the work.
